The Driver Education course is intended to educate students (age 16 or older) on appropriate driving skills and habits as well as playing a responsible role in the highway transportation/safety system. Thomas A. Edison's Driver Education Program is conducted under the State Education Department's (SED) procedures and guidelines, and must provide each student participant with at least the minimum of twenty-four (24) clock hours of classroom instruction and twenty-four (24) clock hours of in-car instruction. Students must complete no fewer than six (6) clock hours of actual behind-the-wheel driving experience and eighteen (18) clock hours of observation in the teacher-supervised vehicle. Students who satisfactorily complete the course are eligible to receive the MV-285: Student Certificate of Completion. The MV-285 Student Certificate of Completion allows:

Driver Education in Edison typically runs for approximately 16 weeks. Classes are afterschool, with one day of classroom instruction and the choice of a scheduled driving day. Participants must possess a NYS Learners Permit
